Dengue

Pathogen

Dengue virus, 4 serotypes.

Transmission

Tiger mosquitoes (Aedes) in tropics/subtropics.

Clinical picture

High fever, headaches and body aches ("breakbone fever"), rash. Severe course with second infection by another serotype: shock, bleeding.

Vaccine protection

Live vaccine (Qdenga), 2 doses 3 months apart.

Who should be vaccinated?

Travellers with prior dengue infection or particular exposure risk to endemic areas (Caribbean, Central/South America, South/Southeast Asia, Pacific).

Booster: Aktuell keine Auffrischung empfohlen (Datenlage noch nicht ausreichend). Indikation: Reise nach Dengue-Endemiegebiete bei Erwachsenen mit anamnestisch durchgemachter Dengue-Infektion oder besonderem Expositionsrisiko.
