Yellow fever

Pathogen

Yellow fever virus (flavivirus).

Transmission

Mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti, Haemagogus).

Clinical picture

Acute fever, vomiting, jaundice, bleeding, renal failure. Lethality in severe courses 20–50 %.

Vaccine protection

Live vaccine (Stamaril, YF-Vax). One dose = lifelong protection (WHO 2016).

Who should be vaccinated?

Travellers to endemic areas (sub-Saharan Africa, tropical South America). Mandatory entry requirement in some countries — vaccination certificate (yellow booklet) required.

Vaccination schedule (STIKO)

  1. Einmalige Dosis

Booster: WHO 2016: Einmal-Impfung gilt lebenslang. Manche Länder verlangen formell Auffrischung alle 10 J. (Einreisebestimmung) — bei Reise prüfen. Impfung nur in autorisierten Gelbfieber-Impfstellen.
