Transmission
Bite/saliva of infected mammals (dog, fox, bat).
Clinical picture
Once symptomatic, invariably fatal. Swallowing spasms, hydrophobia, paralysis.
Vaccine protection
Inactivated vaccine pre-exposure (preventive, 3 doses) or post-exposure (after bite).
Who should be vaccinated?
Travellers to endemic areas (Asia, Africa), veterinarians, hunters, forestry workers, bat researchers.
Vaccination schedule (STIKO)
- 1. Dosis (Tag 0)
- 2. Dosis (Tag 7) — 7 Tage nach 1. Dosis.
- 3. Dosis (Tag 21–28) — 21–28 Tage nach 1. Dosis.
Booster: Alle 2–5 J. bei fortbestehender Exposition (beruflich, Reise in Endemiegebiete).
