Transmission
Droplet infection, close contact.
Clinical picture
Rapidly progressing meningitis with high fever, stiff neck, skin haemorrhages. Lethality 5–10 % even with treatment.
Vaccine protection
Conjugate vaccine (MenC).
Who should be vaccinated?
All children in the 2nd year of life. Adults at risk: complement deficiency, splenectomy, travel.
Vaccination schedule (STIKO)
- Einmalige Dosis (12 Monate)
Booster: Keine Routine-Auffrischung. Risikopatienten (Komplementdefekt, Splenektomie, Reise) ggf. MenACWY + Men-B.
